Appearances include that of Bon Iver’s (around 27 minutes), Nikki Minaj (with her fake accent in the intro) and much more. Black dinner with white food service people. It isn’t subliminally indicated but, the dramatic theatrics is something. Your thoughts?
‘Ye’s invading the music blogosphere and in a matter of time, your favorite music stations. With the slew of tracks released, both leaks and free shared by Kanye in his website, this just shows how determined he is for this comeback. And I know you have heard of this countless times but hearing the name Justin Vernon along with his name positively excites me. Plus the crazy awesome tracks with these RNB and rap stars makes me feel like a kid waiting to open my gift at Christmas everytime I check the internet. Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Fridays series probably is the smartest (and most generous) project by anyone in the music industry this 2010. By simultaneously setting up his album and repairing his karma, he really has been on everyone’s tongues. And since he’s on the roll, why should he stop?
A few months ago, Kanye West’s “Monster,” which featured Bon Iver (with other R&B and rap artists) was previewed in countless music sites. Now the two are at it again with a leaked track title “Lost In The World.” The song uses a sample of Bon Iver’s “Woods” throughout the song. The tags are well placed although I’m wouldn’t be looking forward to the album if it makes through the final cut. Who wouldn’t like this?
Oh yeah, and Pitchfork says it also contains samples from Gil Scott-Heron.
The fashion conscious song has elicited BIG STRONG feelings from me. Perfect amount of collaborations without leaving the listener like any of the featured artists are lacking. And the hypnotic John Legend chorus (“I’ve got the world in my hands, the master plan, but I don’t know why I keep calling you”), Kanye’s jam has the impressive array (Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Lloyd Banks and Ryan Leslie) but the difference in this track from the other G.O.O.D. fridays is the extended drum solo and electric guitar. He definitely took it away.
Pusha T’s verse sounds insane. And whatever foul word you can give Kanye, you gotta hand it to him, he know how to mess his haters around with this hard hitting track. Blistering, this song is. But still gotta give my points to that Christian Dior track though.
But wait, there’s some more new Kanye West! Well, sort of. The clearly unfinished “Touch It”\was reportedly recorded for Common and Ludacris, but you can download it below.
When I talk about Justin Vernon, I always take a pause before speaking because words cannot express how grateful I am. How so, you say? Justin Vernon’s work conscience is just impeccable. Though he may not have given a proper follow-up to For Emma, Forever Ago, but in the last two years he has put out an EP, two albums (Unmap with Volcano Choir, Relayted with GAYNGS) and a couple of compilations. Yes I also have heard of his collab with Kanye West, despite my lack of knowledge on the specific details. There’s no announcement of a second album, but Bon Iver, 3 months ago, has most recently contributed to a tribute to John Prine, in the compilation Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows: The Songs of John Prine. Listen to the track above.
Selfhood by Tanya Johnston
Because he believes in himself, he doesn’t try to convince others.
Because he is content with himself, he doesn’t need others’ approval.
Because he accepts himself, the whole world accepts him.

As promised, here is the official soundtrack of the 4th season of Grey’s Anatomy. Other than Grey’s Anatomy, other hit shows like Gossip Girl, Chuck, Fringe, Glee, Dollhouse, One Tree Hill, Ugly Betty, House and many more. You’ve got to give a hand to the music supervisors of these shows for their success. The music is not perfect, but it’s certainly entertaining. The show goes mostly for indie favorites like The National, Ingrid Michaelson, The Gossip, Tegan and Sara, The Bird and the Bee, Bon Iver, Feist, Goldfrapp, Rilo Kiley, Frightened Rabbit, The Republic Tigers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more. Enjoy!

It’s hard to believe that For Emma, Forever Ago is the work of one man. With a bit of research, I found out that when Justin Vernon’s old band split he hauled himself to his dad’s hunting cabin in the woods of Wisconsin for the coldest season and worked through his issues in musical form. Bon Iver comes from the French translation “bon hiver” meaning “good winter”.
Upon hearing “Skinny Love“, probably the most accessible song on “For Emma, Forever Ago”, it was running through my head the rest of the week as I played it over and over again. It is inexplicably breathtaking a song. This should in no way denigrate or malign the rest of the album, which packs a surprising bunch. A few people, including my dad whom I asked to give a listen to give his review and he categorized it as “background music”. It would be easy to just treat “For Emma…” as one, but a careful listen reveals layers of melody overlaid by Justin Vernon’s impressive vocals.
“The Wolves (Act I and II)” starts off slowly but builds into a powerful message at the album’s core.
The title track “For Emma” further embellishes on what might have been lost with a mixture of trumpet and strained guitar. The crooning of “Creature Fear” builds into the wonderfully moody instrumental “Team”.
“Re: Stacks” rate as one of if not the most emotional songs of 2008. And this is an understatement. The guitar strumming is basic, but the vocal embellishment and understated sadness in Vernon’s voice is unmistakable. Very good song.
I’m afraid to listen to this record too much as I don’t ever want it’s brilliance to dim. Best thing I’ve heard in quite a while. Let’s see, Feist and Cat Power were the last artists that moved me like this, not that Bon Iver is anything like that and he’ll probably never be over played in trendy boutique, but there’s something so deep and soulful in the whisperings on this record. Mostly it’s quiet, mostly it’s chillingly beautiful.
I highly recommend this album–it’s subtle tones on first listen grow into sheer brilliance.
