SIA does a covers the Madonna hit “Oh, Father” , and the results are…
Like chalk and cheese. In a good way.
First, let me just stress how I strongly agree that this Madonna song from her hit album Like A Prayer in 1989 is way underrated. “Oh Father” is the 13th song from Sia’s fourth studio album ‘We Are Born’ which has leaked online one week ahead of it’s official release. The album was penned almost entirely by Sia herself, but it does contain a cover of Madonna’s late-80′s classic and ode to child abuse “Oh Father”.
I like the way Sia puts her own spin to the mellow and painful ballad and albeit it seems a little fast in tempo compared to Madonna‘s, the effect is distinctively different. Sia removed the piano and the strings from the original version, her vocal delivery renders the much necessary drama for the intriguing child abuse-themed track. Aptly eerie and haunting, this cover really shows how Sia made this one her own and not a total copy of the original. Bravo!
West claims he’s the voice of his generation. He compares himself to Michael Jordan. He bitches loudly and publicly when he doesn’t win awards. He’s not afraid to use his real name. Whether or not he is his generation’s defining voice, it’s clear that he definitely has its biggest ego.
Me: Kanye has an ego because he’s so short. Little man syndrome. Like those guys in the gym who are midgets but work out sooo much because they think it will make them look ~taller~ … lol I think Kanye’s “ego” is actually a combination of insecurity and being a serious perfectionist.
Any dude who can meet with world leaders one weekend and then have two 19-year olds sit on his lap the next has a BIG ego. Bono’s life is dedicated to bigness. He sings big anthems, not songs. He’s out to save rock ’n’ roll and the world. He’s not just a rock star; he’s a messiah, at least to himself. And, yes, I’m a little jealous.
How huge was John Lennon’s ego? He said his band was bigger than Jesus. What more proof do you need? Even Kanye hasn’t gone that far. By the way, this week the Vatican finally forgave Lennon for his 1966 dis. Those guys can hold a grudge.
Noel and Liam Gallagher
Oasis’ brothers spent most of the ’90s claiming they were the best band in the world and boasting how they saved British rock from ruin. They also spent a lot of time writing songs “inspired” by a lot of other British rock. It takes a big ego to remake Beatles songs and call them your own.
ME: I don’t care that oasis are full of themselves, they make me laugh with the ridiculous things they say.
Madonna’s ego is so big she believes that she can actually stop time. The Material Girl is on a never-ending quest to be forever twenty-something. Her bionic limbs are the first step toward immortality. Her insistence on pretending to be the teen pop star of the moment is the second step. The third? It probably will have something to do with her next boy toy.
Me: Madonna, act your age. No botox can fix those varicose veins of yours.
Terence Trent D’Arby
You might not remember this late-’80s nouveau RNB artist. He made a debut album in 1987 that many thought was brilliant, especially him. D’Arby liked it so much he announced that he was going to be bigger than the Beatles. That’s why you don’t remember him. The Beatles saying they’re bigger than Jesus? OK. Emerging R&B star saying he’s bigger than the Beatles? Not OK.
Me: Who this?
Well guys, now that the Stuart Price remix of Madonna ‘s Miles Away has leaked, a few hundred blog would be posting this track a few minutes from now. Its not bad, but given his remixes of the Confessions tracks, I’m sorta expected a little more from him and this track. What do you all think?
Madonna – Miles Away (Thin White Duke Remix)
One of my favorite ladies from Sweden, Robyn, has released her FRESH video of Cobrastyle! Robyn is really something, don’t you think? Friendly blog Sheena Beaston was one of the first who got in it.
Sweet! No wonder Madonna got Robyn for her Europe Sticky and Sweet tour.
September ended, and as the 10th month of the year begins, lets make a good headstart with (in my opinion), a few of the most party-savvy remixes I encountered over at the net. Let these remixes be the drumbeat that guides you. No I don’t have a lot of free time. But I certainly make time for good music, and these seven tracks are it. Enjoy the music, tell your friends, and if you have anything in mind, tell me.
When we think of remix, we always have that percieved concept of how it should start and end. Well, this track starts in an unorthodox way but ends the way everyone wants it to…. Amazing.
Here is the rest of the list:
James Morrison calls Madonna “the most impolite celebrity he’s ever met”.
James Morrison has branded Madonna “the most impolite celebrity he’s ever met“. The singer said so because the 50-year-old stunner she blanked him at a recording session. The ‘Wonderful World’ hitmaker was working at a studio in Los Angeles when he introduced himself to the Material Girl but claims she said nothing and then ignored him.
“I was recording in a studio in LA and she came in to speak to a producer and someone asked if I wanted to meet her,” the Daily Star quoted him, as saying. “I’m not her biggest fan but thought I’d say hello so I went over and said: ‘Hello, I’m James, nice to meet you,” and put my hand out to shake hands.
“She just looked at it and said: ‘And what do you do?’ I told her I was a singer and she just stared at me and didn’t say anything. It was really uncomfortable. Then she just ignored me,” he said. He added: “F*** her, though, it’s just a matter of common courtesy. It doesn’t matter what someone does for a living. She’s just rude. There’s no excuse for it.”
The Brit award winner, whose new album Songs for You, Truths for Me is released on September 29th, became a father at the weekend after his girlfriend Gill gave birth to a baby girl.
I know you’re a living legend Madonna, but try to be nice to little people around. There are so many stories like this… Why am I not surprised she’s a total bitch
He’s a real songwriter and musician, not a borrower and collaborator
Try it, Madonna.
I’m betting Chris Brown’s Forever or Ne-yo’s Closer to win this category of the 2008 MTV VMA’s. But we never know… Who are your bets?
